Michelle Lawrence
Michelle Lawrence has been a special education teacher for 24 years. Originally from New Haven, VT, where she attended local public schools. She continued her education at Wheelock College in Boston, MA, and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education in 1991. Michelle Lawrence relocated to New York City in 1994. She began her teaching career at The League School and Day Treatment Center, in Brooklyn, New York, where she was a lead teacher for youth aged 5 through 21 years old. She was also the basketball coach and commissioner for the Innovative Basketball Association that catered to students from all 5 boroughs. It was during this time that she obtained her Master’s Degree in special education from Touro College. Michelle then transitioned to Theresa Paplin School where she was lead special education teacher for emotionally disturbed and learning disabled youth who were residents in a therapeutic milieu.In August, Michelle began her endeavor at Bedford Stuyvesant New Beginnings Charter School and is excited to be working in this thriving learning community.
