Jay Nickerson

 Jay Nickerson has taught in a variety of settings in New York City Public Schools over the past twelve years and is currently a  Special Education teacher at BSNBCS. A member of the New York City Teaching Fellows, Nickerson holds a Master’s Degree in Childhood Education/Students with Disabilities and an MFA in Acting, both from CUNY/Brooklyn College.

He has taught as an Adjunct Professor at Fordham University/Lincoln Center, The American Academy of Dramatic Arts and Brooklyn College. As a public school teacher, Nickerson has taught Special Education in both Self-Contained and Inclusion classrooms, teaching 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade, and middle school Social Studies and Science, in Brownsville, Crown Heights and Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn over the course of his career. Nickerson grew up in Minnesota, the son of a high school guidance counselor and a professor of Educational Administration. He is the father of two. His son is a Junior at Bard College and his daughter is a Senior at Laguardia High School for the Arts.
